Stephen is currently a Doctoral Candidate in the Health Psychology and Clinical Science program at the Graduate Center, a City University of New York (CUNY). Stephen joined our team as Research Intern during the summer of 2015 and then became a Research Assistant in April of 2016. Currently he holds a position of a Graduate Research Assistant and is also a member of the RHRT Clinical Team. He conducts individual and dyadic interventions using Motivational Interviewing as part of multiple randomized clinical trials focused on substance use, sexual health, and sexual risk while promoting dyadic functioning in sexual minority men (SMM) in romantic relationships. In addition to his role as an interventionist, he is also responsible for developing clinical protocols to ensure study fidelity and participant safety.
Stephen's research examines intimate partner violence (IPV) in SMM in romantic relationships. His work centers on identifying interpersonal, intrapersonal, and contextual factors associated with IPV as well as exploring factors that influence the decision-making process of IPV disclosure and help-seeking in this population. He has also collaborated with colleagues of the Relationship Health Research team on studies that have focused on relationship functioning, substance use, and sexual agreements among partnered sexual minority men. Stephen is currently working on his dissertation, "Project HOPE," and he is also applying to clinical internship programs. After graduation, Stephen would like to continue his research with the ultimate goal of developing interventions aimed at providing support and treatment for SMM who are survivors of IPV. In addition to his research, Stephen would like to continue providing clinical services in community healthcare settings.
Outside of PRIDE, Stephen enjoys spending his limited free time with his friends and family. He likes cooking, running, traveling, and playing with dogs.
