B.A. (Honors), Psychology, Pace University
Matthew Benedict joined our team as a Research Intern in February 2020 during the final semester of his undergraduate degree at Pace University.
Matt works with the Relationship Health Research Team to clean and compile data from various projects conducted by the lab. While completing his undergraduate honors thesis, he developed interest in psychology research. Conducting original research on how people of color are disadvantaged in elections by modern voting behavior inspired him to find more ways that he could apply psychological research to help underserved communities. He quickly became involved in health psychology with particular interest in the LGBTQ community. At PRIDE, he continues to deepen this interest by exploring unique aspects of LGBTQ relationships. He has since begun crafting literature reviews alongside the graduate students at PRIDE to foster his skill in academic writing.
Matt hopes to continue his research on LGBTQ relationships in PhD programs. He wants to develop methods of conflict mediation and communication that address concerns unique to LGBTQ relationships. It is extremely important to him that his research is always accessible and actively improves the lives of underserved communities.
